PSA 10 Pokémon cards and grading

A PSA 10 is a card graded Gem Mint by PSA, the largest trading card grading company. It is the highest standard grade, and it usually carries a big premium.

How grading works

You send your card to a grading company. Graders check centering, corners, edges and surface, give it a grade from 1 (poor) to 10 (gem mint), and seal it in a tamper-proof plastic slab with a label and certificate number.

PSA is the most common grader for Pokémon; Beckett (BGS), CGC and SGC also grade cards. Prices are not directly comparable across companies, even at the same number.

Why PSA 10s are worth so much more

Only a share of submitted copies reach a 10, so a PSA 10 is scarcer than the card itself. For popular cards the jump from PSA 9 to PSA 10 can multiply the price. The PSA population report shows how many copies exist in each grade.

How to get your cards graded

You can submit directly on the grading company's website, through a local card shop, or at a card show. Fees depend on the card's declared value and how fast you want it back, so check the company's current price list before you send.

Only grade cards whose graded value clearly beats the fee: inspect each card for scratches, whitening and centering first.
